Hip - Hop Orchestra @ Hastings on The Hudson
At The Purple Crayon Center for Learning and Social Innovation, with a central location in the Village of Hastings - on - Hudson and a beautiful, newly renovated space ideal for educational and creative programming, students will have the chance to explore different genres of music such as jazz, reggae, blues, calypso, funk, r&b and classical all in the culmination of a Hip - Hop Orchestra ! Students will play original songs by Professor Alonzo Gardner who taught an orchestra at The New School For Social Research and appeared on Nas's video 'Bridging The Gap'. At the end of the 6 week session they will perform in a small concert to showcase what they have learned. The orchestra is open to the following instruments: saxophone (alto,tenor,baritone), trumpet, guitar, flute, trombone, bass, clarinet, violins, cellos, piano, tuba, drums, harmonica, congas/bongos. We also invite singers, rappers, poets, dancers and human/beatboxes. Eligibility: Youth 6-8th grade, Teens and Adults 9-12th grade + all other ages. Dates: Thursdays July 14- August 25(6weeks). Time:4:00-5:30(youth), 6-7:30(teens + adults). Location: The Purple Crayon, 52 Maine Street.
